In an oceanside city with a prominent waterfront, the talk of the town in Syndey in 2000 naturally revolved around what was going on in the pool.
At that time, 15-year-old phenomenon Ian Thorpe was cleaving his way through the 2000 Summer Olympics, posting world-record-breaking times by taking gold in the 400-meter freestyle, the 400-meter freestyle relay and the 800-meter freestyle relay. Thorpe also took silver in the 200-meter freestyle and the 400-meter medley relay.
