At 11 a.m. on Dec. 5, the doors to the Deer Path Inn, a staple of Lake Forest along E. Illinois Road, swung open for the first time since July.

Two bellmen stood at the ready and within four minutes, according to general manager and innkeeper Matt Barba, there was a traffic jam on the street as the public flooded in, trying to get a reservation for the holidays.
