New Trier sophomore Penelope Tir felt her nerves creeping in.

The 15-year-old golfer started to feel her heart pounding and said that she couldn’t breathe. Tir had just four holes to go in the Class 2A sectional at Buffalo Grove on Monday, Oct. 10. A strong performance and a win for her team meant that New Trier would advance to the state finals.
