In Italian, a lazzaretto is a quarantine station for buildings or ships, used primarily for detention.

That definition has carried across the Tyrrhenian, the Mediterranean and the Atlantic, where it’s found a host body in Luca Lazzaretto along the banks of Lake Michigan. There the 6-foot-2-inch, 195-pound Loyola Academy rising junior has earned a reputation for stranding opponents on an island, Darrelle Revis style.
