Lauren Smith felt betrayed.
In the spring of 2012, as a sophomore goalkeeper for Loyola Academy, Smith was not prepared to enter the IHSA sectional championship against the Ramblers’ biggest rival New Trier High School, nor was she prepared for the painful moments that came days after.
