‘The Fantasticks’ still entertains after 60 years

One might say that the latest show at The Citadel Theatre is fantastic.

Or rather, it’s “The Fantasticks.”

The long-running musical, which debuted in 1960, premieres at The Citadel on Friday, Feb. 7.

Pat Murphy, who is directing The Citadel’s production, said the original producers of “The Fantasticks” had intended it to be a major Broadway production, but due to various circumstances, it ended up opening in smaller theaters, where it became a hit.
