Lake Forest native Ferrin named Arizona Diamondbacks broadcaster

As he was growing up in Lake Forest, Mike Ferrin was known to do a play-by-play even on the most mundane games, including throwing a tennis ball against the wall.

He was doing just that one night when he was being called in for dinner by his mother. After the second maternal beckoning he was about to go inside when neighbor Kathryn Joosten, an accomplished actress who would go on to have roles on TV dramas “The West Wing” and “Desperate Housewives,” stopped him.
