“Bittersweet” is the word Chuck Helander used last week to describe the family’s decision to close Helanders Stationers on March 19, after a three-generation, 94-year run on or near Market Square.

“It’s bitter because MaryLee and I decided it was time to close the store,” he said. “It’s sweet because it gives us opportunities now to think about doing things other than open the store seven days a week.”
