The Lake Forest baseball team’s two-hit, one-run first inning in a March 30 contest against Notre Dame was anything but a sign of things to come.

Playing in their Illinois opener — after going 0-2 during a spring break trip to Kentucky — the Scouts were shut out the rest of the way and recorded just five more singles in a 7-1 loss to the Dons.

The defeat came on a cold, windy day beneath on-and-off showers, but Lake Forest coach Ray Del Fava refused to use the conditions as an excuse.
