The eighth-graders at Deer Path Middle School have been given a monumental task: to complete 2,016 volunteer hours by the time they, the Class of 2016, graduate.

It’s not easy, but the 254 middle-schoolers are tackling it one hour at a time. They kicked off their year of volunteering with a community service day spent at 15 organizations in Lake Forest, Lake Bluff, and a few northern Lake County towns, last Friday, Oct. 23.
