The mild winter this year means that the City of Lake Forest and the Village of Lake Bluff used less road salt than usual.

With weather in February peaking in the 60-degree range, and very few days registering significant snowfall, Lake Forest and Lake Bluff ended the year (barring any snowstorms in April) with a surplus of salt.

Both Lake Forest and Lake Bluff have capabilities to preserve the excess salt.
