Highland Park held on for a narrow, one-run victory over Lake Forest in the opening game of the summer Junior Connie Mack league on Thursday, June 11, topping the visiting Scouts by a final of 9-8 in five-and-a-half innings. The two JCM squads, comprised predominantly of rising sophomores and juniors, each showed considerable rust in the field as many of the young athletes attempted new positions for the first time or found themselves playing alongside an entirely new batch of teammates.
